LINC Theme: Science and Technology NEW!

The Linking Individuals, Knowledge and Culture (LINC) Program gives outstanding 15-17 year old Bangladeshi and American students the opportunity to learn about science and technology, community service/volunteerism, youth leadership, and cross cultural understanding. The American LINC students will visit Bangladesh in April 2007 and participate in a 3-week Exchange. The American students will meet their Bangladeshi counterparts and participate in various activities such as an environmental camp and an eco-tour of the Sundarbans. The Bangladeshi students will then travel to the United States in May 2007 and reunite with their American counterparts. Both groups of students will engage in a community projects and complete 10 hours of community service and research per month until January 2008. During the 3-week exchange to Bangladesh and the USA, RI-SOL will work with a number of partners to implement a series of workshops, conferences, lectures, cultural events and activities. Generous funding for this program has been provided by the Education and Cultural Affairs Bureau of the US State Department.

The LINC Program Intends:

- To engage a diverse group of Bangladeshi and American students (10 from each country) to take an active role in science and technology and to ensure a successful and culturally-enriching 3-week exchange.
- To enhance American and Bangladeshi students' understanding of issues of ecology, environmental science, technology, youth leadership, conflict resolution and community development by engaging the students in short courses, youth science camps, and community-oriented environmental service projects.
-To engage Bangladeshi and American schools in science-related programming and to promote science related educational activities after the exchange.
-To give LINC students continued post-exchange support and to monitor follow-on project activities. The LINC program requires continued follow-on activities and a year- long commitment to involvement in projects related to science, technology, or the environment.

Ten Bay Area students of the USA will visit Bangladesh in April for a three-week exchange programme.The students will work with Bangladeshi students on a community service project, visit mangrove forests and attend an environmental science camp while living with a host family, according to California-based Contra Costa Time. The grant was awarded by Relief International-Schools Online and the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the US state department.
