The idea of volunteerism and community service is an unfamiliar concept in Bangladesh.  Youth especially tend to think that they can’t make a difference or that their thoughts and ideas don’t matter.  With this in mind, RI-SOL devised a lesson that would work to turn student’s ideas into creative community service projects that could be carried out for the two-day Global Youth Service Day Celebration, April 15-17.  The lesson was taught in RI-SOL’s schools with Internet Learning Centers, and by Peace Corps volunteers teaching English at the Department of Youth Development (DYDs) centers throughout Bangladesh.

Teacher Professional Development Workshop 2 PDF Print E-mail

The second teacher training in Bangladesh was held by Relief International - Schools Online (RI-SOL) the 11th, 12th and 13th of May 2005 at one of our Internet Learning Center schools in Tongi, Sirajuddin Saker School.  Sixteen teachers braved heat that topped 40 degrees Celsius to participate in the training.  Participating teachers were from two schools in Tongi, two schools in Gazipur, two schools in Comilla and two schools Jessore.  Additionally, two professional educators from the Bangladeshi NGO Proshika attended the training.

In May, students from three ILC schools participated in the second Global Connections and Exchanges Project in Bangladesh on the subject of Foods around the World.  The students had the opportunity to use internet search engines for the first time for research.
