World Environment Day 2005 PDF Print E-mail

Relief International – Schools Online’s Bangladesh country office participated in World Environment Day activities coordinated by the National Forum of Youth of Bangladesh (NFYOB). Children from age 5 to 16 created artwork depicting environmental issues; more than 2,300 pieces were submitted. The art was judged by a panel, and awards were presented two weeks ago at the Shishu (Children’s) Academy. The chief guest at the award ceremony was the State Minister for NGO Affairs, Mr. Lutfur Rahman Khan. He and other guests including RI-SOL Country Director Dr. Jack Welch, and NYFOB Secretary General Dulal Biswa, and several members of Save the Youth Forum.

Summer is here, and that means it’s hot, usually above 32C, with humidity hovering between 90 and 100 percent. It will cool off a bit later this month, as the sweltering heat is replaced by torrential rain – monsoon season is around the corner. We gave a lot of thought to environmental conditions when we set up the internet learning centers, including attention to dissipating heat from the computers and their power systems, and weatherproofing of the rooms. So far, we have had no equipment failures due to thermal stress, and during the two major thunderstorms that we have had, the windows and roofs have held against the driving rain.

Students from schools throughout Bangladesh participated in a collaborative lesson about Journalism, which culminated in publishing their own newspapers.

Grand opening ceremony of 'Tongi 1' ILC PDF Print E-mail

A week after the opening of the ILC in Gazipur, the Siraj Uddin Sarker Vidyaniketan located in Tongi held a grand opening ceremony to launch its new Internet Learning Center.  The center was also implemented by Relief International – Schools Online (RI-SOL), an international NGO, thanks to generous funding provided by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.
