We've put together some thumbnail sketches of each of the US teachers
participating in the current exchange program with Bangladesh
Linda Brant
Linda teaches at the Davis School for Independent Study in Davis,
California. She has participated in both ends of the GCEP
Project; her classes participated in the 'my community' and
'recipe' global projects, and contributed to several forum
discussions between students in the US and Bangladesh.
Linda was one of the host teachers for the recent visit of
Bangladeshi teachers to the US as well.
Linda has taught a number of subjects and has certifications in
special education and teaching of English as a second
language. Presently, she teaches English, History, Science
and Health to students in the ninth and tenth grades. She
is also active in regional teaching initiatives and with school
administration.
Linda has an impressive travel history which reflects her interest
in the world around her; some of her previous voyages have taken
her Siberia, Mongolia, Kenya and Indonesia.
While in Bangladesh, Linda is hoping to take a look at several
issues related to teaching such as the training of women
educators and provisions for teaching of the handicapped in
Bangaldeshi schools.
Laura Sardagna
Laura teaches Algebra and Spanish in grades nine through twelve at
the Academy of the Pacific, a private residential school in
Honolulu, Hawaii.
Laura was born in Argentina and participated in a student
exchange program while she was in High School. She visited
the Hawaii, California, and took a train trip across the entire
country to visit the US. Thanks to that trip, she learned
about the US and later settled there, so Laura has a unique
appreciation of the benefits of intercultural exchanges.
While now thoroughly at home with US culture, Laura has a truely
global perspective.
Like the other program participants, Laura is not new to the
Global Connections and Exchange Program. Her classes have
participated in several global projects with GCEP schools in
Tajikistan.
Paul Martello
Paul teaches History at the Washington Irving School in Bristow,
Virginia. He is also a veteran of other GCEP projects, including
joint projects with the Palestine GCEP Project.
In addition to teaching History, Paul is particularly interested in
the period around the US Civil War. Paul lives about 20
miles from the US Capital in Northern Virginia, an area which was
particularly contested during that war, and bears many monuments
and historic battlefields. Paul is also an avid sports fan
-- in particular, US Football. |
