Trees of Technology PDF Print E-mail
Trees help stabilize soil and reduce dust during the long, dry season each winter in Bangladesh.  Dust is the enemy of computers.  It gets into the moving parts and causes critical components like drives and fans to fail.  Without the fans, the computers cook in their own juices, leaving behind a puddle of plastic and metal.  For GYSD 2006, students thought about this issue, and decided that their next computer upgrade would be green.  They planted trees around their computer lab to both cut down on dust, and in the long term, to provide the lab with shade.

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT (written by the students):

We need oxygen. We know trees give us oxygen. In our daily life trees are very important. There are many uses of trees. As example- we get medicines, beautiful flowers, fresh fruits etc. from trees. It also makes our environment look beautiful. That’s why trees are much needed in our community. Also, trees give shade and keep down dust from the air.

PLANTING & TAKING CARE OF PLANTS:
Tree plantation is very essential in our Internet Learning Center Computer Lab. We should take care of the trees. And we need to do it step by step.

 1. Planting Trees:
 a. At first we should make a hole, mix proper mud and fertilizer and put it in the hole.
 b. Then we should sow the seeds.
 c. Next we should give water to the plants daily.
 d. We should follow all the rules for planting trees.

  2. Protection of trees:
  a. We should give shade over the small plants at the first stage when they are weak. Because that time they can’t protect themselves from heavy sunlight.
  b. We should build up a fence around the whole area where the plants are planted to protect from the naughty children and animals.
  c. And then we should weed out all the weeds.

HOW WE CAN CONTINUE IT:
We can make some rules and regulations to continue the tree plantation. We can   take it as our hobby. We can have a practical class on this subject. We can also take help from our teachers. To continue the tree plantation we have to work hard.

IMPACT OF THE COMMUNITY:
Our tree plantation project has inspired the people of the community to do it. They are eager to plant trees.  Our community has agreed on this tree plantation. It has affected our community a lot. They have been able to make their environment look beautiful. It can stop deforestation problem.

NARRATIVE:
In gysd 2005 we built a group of classmates who cleans school computer lab (Internet Learning Center of Relief International) and keep it dust free. But still there were much dust from school ground comes to ILC. The field has little grass and lacks any big trees to protect ILC from dusty wind. We decided to plant some big trees in school campus and in front of ILC windows. Although tree plantation is not an easy work to do but it will make our ILC look beautiful and will also increase the natural beauty.
