Students at the Safi Uddin Sarker Academy and College organized an oral
polio vaccination program for community children at their school in
Tongi as part of their Global Youth Service Day celebration.
Student volunteers, working with medical supervision, administered the
vaccine to younger children and updated their record of
vaccination. Polio cases worldwide have declined markedly in the
last three decades thanks to vaccination programs like this one.
However, there were reports of wild-type polio in Bangladesh within the
last year, causing international health organizations to step up
efforts here.
More than 800 doses of oral polio vaccine were administered to
community members. Vaccine was delivered to the school, with care
to maintain
the cold chain. Vaccine was checked for date and lot, and
informed consent was obtained from guardians to perform
vaccination. Vaccine was administered according to manufacturers'
instruction under direct medical supervision. |
