Students
at the Joydepur Girls High School in Gazipur celebrated Earth Day and
GYSD by planting flowers and trees on their school ground. Sarah
Duffy, an officer from the US embassy, was on hand to plant a tree and
give a short talk about the importance of conserving the
environment. School students and Girl Guides were in charge
of the planting, which took place along the borders of the school
property and in front of the main building. The Joydepur Girls
High School is a partner school participating in the Global Connections
and Exchange Program.
More
than 1,000 students and staff of the school participated in the tree
planting ceremony. Tall, shade-giving trees were positioned near
the front of the school and will help cool the school in years to come. |
