The 2006 EFL Institute for Eastern India and Bangladesh was designed to
bring thirty teachers to the US to learn methodologies for teaching
English as a Second Language. The program was implemented by
Relief International - Schools Online in close cooperation with Hamline
University of Minnesota.
Fifteen teachers were selected from each country. Indian teachers were
selected from Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal Pradesh. The Bangladeshi
teachers were selected from all over the country. The program involved
teachers from all kinds of schools -- large and small, government and
private.
The exchange was designed to bring the teachers to the US for five
weeks, two for course work at Hamline and three for work-shadow
experiences in which the teachers can observe American teachers in a
classroom setting.
After return of the Indian and Bangladeshi teachers, they will perform
trainings for other English teachers in their home countries. Later,
they will be joined by American teachers who will assist in running
workshops in both India and Bangladesh.
The program was funded by the United States Department of State's
Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the
Hays-Fulbright Act of 1961, as amended. |
