Global Warming Student speak out PDF Print E-mail
A new initiative called the Global Warming Student Speakout become Part of GLOBE science project Bangladesh recently funded by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Bangladesh. The GLOBE Bangladesh is being implemented by RI SOL.

The event has started from mid October with brainstorming session on cause and effect of global warming on local community and environment. 20 students guided by 2 science teachers from Sirajuddin Sarker Vidyaniketon School participated and facilitated the event. Mr. Ramiz Uddin and Mrs. Shamima Akter facilitated the session with assistance from Mr. Habibur Rahman Chowdhury and Mr. Mohammad Nasirullah and other educational staffs from Relief International-Schools Online Bangladesh Country office.

The project, co-presented with Google Education and Global SchoolNet, gives students a chance to collectively brainstorm strategies for fighting global warming and have their ideas published in a full-page ad in USA Today newspaper. We hope this simple project, which should take only a few hours to complete, helps educators test the waters with software for online collaboration – and helps students learn about the environment and civic participation. This is a new way to engage GCEP students in collaborative problem solving.

After reviewing the spreadsheets, Global SchoolNet will choose the top 50 ideas, and Google will publish the list in an ad that will appear online and in a November issue of USA Today (we'll send participants the date as soon as we have it). We'll also include the name of every school that participates, so regardless of whether their ideas are published, your students will be credited for their work.

The Global Connections and Exchange Project – Bangladesh is a project of Relief International - Schools Online's Global
Citizenship & Youth Philanthropy Program and has been made possible with major funding from the United States State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Global Catalyst Foundation.
