Nazrul Islam, National Country Director

Nazrul Islam has been working with Relief International for the past four years, as the Director of ICT for Development until November 2007, and most recently, as the Country Director for Bangladesh. Nazrul plans and coordinates our technology and educational projects as well as more traditional development-related programs which promoting bridging digital divide, equity of access to information, and modification of technology resources to make them relevant and appropriate in the context of Bangladesh.

He has conducted research and published articles on the integration of ICT into education and civil society development. In 2005, he conducted a study on Multistakeholderism of Grameen Bank's Village Phone Program. Nazrul served as a member of International Jury Board of Global Junior Challenge, an award given to the projects dedicated to the use and integration of ICT in education.

Nazrul did both a Bachelor and Master of Social Science from Jahangirnagar University and completed a postgraduate program in Development Studies from Massey University in New Zealand.

Education Unit


Eather Nawaz, Education Coordinator

Eather works closely with schools and club to coordinate educational program and also creates new projects and works with teachers to develop lesson plan. She also plays a leading role in coordinating and facilitating all educational training and Teacher Professional Development(TPD) programs throughout the GCE school netwrok in Bangladesh.

She did a masters in general history. Previously, Eather worked in educational programs for Ahsania Mission, a reputed indigenous NGO in Bangladesh.

Community & Sustainability Unit


Md. Rahmatullah Faruque, Community and Sustainability Coordinator

Rahmatullah works directly with communities to assess their needs and develop customized sustainability plans for ICT projects. He coordinates local community meetings, fosters relationships with local businesses and organizations, and assists the education and IT staff in developing content useful to community members.

Faruque did his masters in English Literature and earlier worked with ILO- suppoted youth program in Bangladesh.

Exchange Unit


Lazina Sharmin, Exchange Coordinator

Lazina is responsible for coordinating student and teacher exchange programs in Bangladesh. She works closely with our staff in California to make sure that exchanges run smoothly on the Bangladesh end. Lazina did her masters in International Relations from Dhaka University. She has participated in a number of international youth development programs.

Md. Masud Al-Mamun, Exchange Associate

Masud assists the Exchange Coordinator with overseeing all aspects of student, teacher and other exchange programs between Bangladesh and other countries and undertake domestic travel when required. He assists with logistics and communicates with the exchange participants. Masud also coordinates alumnii activities of the exchange projects. In addition, he occasionally assists in bringing out promotional and public relations materials for RI SOL programs. He also assists the Coordinator in developing new exchange policies and continually revises procedures for effective exchange advertising, recruitment, interviewing, and selection.

He completed his postgraduate degree in International Relations from University of Dhaka.

IT Unit


Mir Mahbub Alamgir, IT Officer

Mahbub is the Information Technology Office of Relief International's Dhaka office. He is responsible for maintaining the office LAN, Internet connectivity, central server, and all workstations in the Dhaka office. Mahbub also helps in designing, updating and maintenance of Relief International Bangladesh's web site. He also provides online and offline technical support to Cluster Field Technicians and Cluster Operations Managers who directly works with ILCs.

Mahbub completed his B.Sc. Honors in Computer Science & Engineering from Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB) and now continuing M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering in East West University (EWU).

Cluster Operation Manager Unit


Mohammad Rashel, Cluster Operation Manager, Chittagong

Rashel is the Cluster operation Manager of Chittagong cluster.

Biva Nag, Cluster Operation Manager, Comilla

Biva the Onsite Educator for the Comilla school cluster. She works with teachers and students at core and partner schools to facilitate intercultural lessons, establish basic computer literacy and promote project-based learning.

Finance and Administration Unit


Nikhil C Bhattacharyya, Finance & Administrative Manager

Nikhil is responsible for the Finance & Administration section of the Bangladesh Country Office. He ensures smooth operation of finance and administrative tasks in the Bangladesh office. Nikhil also coordinates with RI HQ finance section to monitor the project expenses, financial statements, budget analysis, internal and external audit, liaise with NGOAB officials and supervise finance and admin personnel. He is also takes care of office inventories and implementations of employee manuals.

Previously, Nikhil worked in infrastructure consulting and marketing sector. Immediately before joining RI he worked with a UK based consulting company in Bangladesh.Nikhil completed a MBA with major in Finance & Banking and did his Bachelors and Masters in Accounting from National University in Bangladesh.

Imran Ali, Finance Officer

Imran was graduated from the Finance and Banking Department at the University of Dhaka, and has extensive experience working with NGOs and research organizations. He is responsible for overseeing the country-wide financial operations of Schools Online in Bangladesh, including distribution of paychecks to our far-flung staff. His attention to detail and thorough knowledge of financial procedures have ensured that the program runs smoothly and that its financial operations are transparent for all concerned. Imran enjoys traveling, watching TV and participating in a number of outdoor games.
