Teacher Professional Development Workshop 2 PDF Print E-mail
The second teacher training in Bangladesh was held by Relief International - Schools Online (RI-SOL) the 11th, 12th and 13th of May 2005 at one of our Internet Learning Center schools in Tongi, Sirajuddin Saker School.  Sixteen teachers braved heat that topped 40 degrees Celsius to participate in the training.  Participating teachers were from two schools in Tongi, two schools in Gazipur, two schools in Comilla and two schools Jessore.  Additionally, two professional educators from the Bangladeshi NGO Proshika attended the training.
This training was a revised version of the teacher training that RI-SOL facilitated in March.  It focused on exposing teachers to active teaching methodologies as well as giving them a broad and introductory overview to IT skills.  Teachers participated as learners in a full day activity called My Community which used student centered, technology based, and project based methodologies. Following the activities, teachers discussed what worked well and what they liked and disliked as well as what would and would not work in their classrooms. The training aimed to prepare teachers to use Information Communication Technology (ICT) as a classroom tool, not only for the Global Connections and Exchanges Projects, but for the subjects they teach everyday.

Teachers used several software applications for the training including:  PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, Photoshop, and Paint.  They also used the Internet and digital cameras – for most participants, for the first time.

On the final day, the training was visited by Jon Cebra , Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka and Jack Welch, Country Director of RI-SOL.  Mr. Cebra congratulated and commended teachers for their active participation in the project and encouraged them to continue their work facilitating cultural exchange with their students.   Teachers left the training enthusiastic about participating in upcoming RI-SOL Global Connections and Exchanges Projects.

The Global Connections and Exchange Project – Bangladesh is a project of Relief International - Schools Online's Global
Citizenship & Youth Philanthropy Program and has been made possible with major funding from the United States State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Global Catalyst Foundation.
