EFL Indian Teachers Meets in Calcutta
The EFL training at the Hamline University in the USA has greatly changed perception of Indian teachers to English teaching methods. They have learned how to make their English language classes more interactive and interesting to their students. Many of them believe that, through the training, their classes are now more participatory than anytime in the past. One teacher would like to term it as a paradigm shift from the traditional way of teaching English in most typical Indian schools.

Global Warming Student Speak Out
A new initiative called the Global Warming Student Speakout become Part of GLOBE science project Bangladesh recently funded by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Bangladesh. The event has started from mid October with brainstorming session on cause and effect of global warming on local community and environment. 20 students guided by 2 science teachers from Sirajuddin Sarker Vidyaniketon School participated and facilitated the event. Mr. Ramiz Uddin and Mrs. Shamima Akter facilitated the session with assistance from Mr. Habibur Rahman Chowdhury and Mr. Mohammad Nasirullah and other educational staffs from Relief International-Schools Online Bangladesh Country office.

English Teachers Visit USA
English language teachers from Bangladesh and India completed a six week visit to the United States where they participated in the English as a Foreign Language Institute. See details in the news section and the June Newsletter. Photos from the exchange program are posted to the project photo gallery. The course was hosted by Hamline University in Minnesota, and the teachers had a chance to learn about the latest techniques for language teaching. In addition to studies at the university, they observed and worked alongside American EFL teachers in Minnesota schools. The teachers talked about their experience (in Bangla) on the Voice of America.
Students Return to Bangladesh
Students participating in the LINC (Linking Individuals, Knowledge and Culture) exchange program have returned to Bangladesh. Last year, these students had worked with visiting American students on a number of community-oriented projects (see video clips for broadband and dialup). While in the United States, the Bangladeshi students again teamed up with American students and worked on a number of service projects including work at a homeless shelter and in community centers. Global Youth Service Day 2006
Thousands of Bangladeshi students at schools participating in the Global Connections and Exchange Program celebrated Global Youth Service Day with activites including vaccination programs, planting of trees, creation of public walkways, community clean-up, projects on literacy and poverty, teaching, workshops on democracy and recycling, an anti-smoking campaign, a blood drive, a campaign against early marriage and dowry, and a theatrical presentation about gender equality.

Chittagong ILCs Launched!
On March 16th at 3:30, a ceremony at the Kala Kakoli school launched a fifteen center project bringing computers and internet to schools and their communities in the Chittagong area. These centers will participate in the Global Connections and Exchange Program project. Read More...

US LINC Students Visit Bangladesh: Eight students participating in the LINC (Linking Individuals, Knowledge and Culture) Program are now visiting Bangladesh. During their three weeks in Bangladesh, the students will experience Bangaldeshi culture first hand. Students will work on community and development projects, and explore the role of community service and volunteerism in community building and conflict prevention/resolution.
