Khulna Alia Madrasa Advocates for an Inclusive Information Society on World Information Society Day |

World Information Society Day 2007 was celebrated in Khulna Alia Madrasa on 17 May to remind the world of the vision of the World Summit on the Information Society to create “a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented information society” based on fundamental human rights.
UNESCO has referred to these societies as Knowledge Societies based on four fundamental principles: freedom of expression, universal access to information and knowledge, respect for cultural and linguistic diversity, equal access to quality education. In 2007, UNESCO has dedicated the Day to the principle of universal access to information and knowledge.
The Khulna Alia Madradaa organized a discussion meeting at the ILC which was attended by Khulna District Education Officer, Mr, Mijanur Rahman , Chairman of Khulna Press Club, Mr. Mokbul Hosein Mintu, Principal of the madrasa, Mr. Moulana Md. Saleh, Vice Principal, Mr. Moulana Md. Abdus Rajjak, Professor Golam Mustafa Shindaini and Ms. Nura Zakia Sultan, Cluster Operations Manager of RI SOL's Khulna Jessore Cluster. A number of teachers, community members and students of the madrasa attended the celebration. In the opening speech of the celebration, the District Education Officer expressed his gratitude to Relief International (www.ri.org) and Education and Cultural Affairs Bureau (http://exchanges.state.gov/) of the US State Department for introducing the ICT based education projects in the Khulna Alia Madrasa.
"ILC has opened up a new horizon of knowledge and information. It has brought opportunity to learn new communication tools such as Internet through which we can be connected to our peers around the world and learn about the world. With the help of ILC, we can enrich ourselves on daily basis with new information and knowledge." said a 16 years old madrasa student who was given floor to talk about his experience with GCE projects. The principal in his written speech emphasized on the need of ICT skills in daily lives and urged his students to learn computer and internet to compete in the changing job market. He also stressed on building an inclusive information society.
