Dhaka Madrasa students Observe World Environment Day 2007 PDF Print E-mail
GCE students of the Uttar Badda Kamil Madrasa (religious school) have celebrated World Environment Day (WED) 2007, a global event commemorated on 5 June around the world. This year's WED's slogan was: Melting Ice- A Hot Topic. The WED theme selected for 2007 stressed on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the subsequent consequences around the world.

Students and teachers of the madrasa took part in a discussion on climate change and how global warming may potentially impact Bangladesh in future. Many of the participating students heard about the climate change for first time in their life and were very enthusiastic to learn more about the issues related to the climate change. The RI SOL officials and lead teacher helped students to search information about climate change using internet search engines such as yahoo and google. Through the observation of the day, around 200 students of the madrasa have been exposed to the basic information about climate change. RI SOL has been utilizing it GCE school network to raise awareness about climate change among the youth of Bangladesh. In late 2006, GCE program conducted an online collaborative project on Climate Change.
