RI SOL has recently lunched a new online collaborative project called Youth Connect Worldwide. Youth Connect Worldwide is a key component of the Bangladesh Global Connections and Exchange Program. Through the technical capacity provided by Google Earth and the GCE online learning platforms, the Youth Connect Worldwide, a combination of online and offline activities, is designed to promote
• Multicultural awareness
• Civic education and empowerment
• An exchange of ideas related to participating student’s community
• Joint action by youth to address common issues locally and globally

Designed as an e-learning program, the activities will utilize multimedia platforms including:

• web-based discussion forums
• web-based collaboration tools
• blogs
• videoconferences
• face to face classroom activities

As a result of participating in these activities, GCE youth improves their understanding of local and international issues, taking an active role in sensitizing fellow classmates and associates to the importance of understanding local issues, learning about the similarities and differences of their communities, and using the internet to develop new forms of social and civic participation.

By entering content (photos, information, etc.) onto a webpage, students allow their peers, as well as people around the world to learn about their cultures. Many remote communities are finally represented on the World Wide Web, giving voice to youth that did not have an international voice before.

RI SOL has initiated a separate website for the new online project which can be found at : www.youthconnectworldwide.org

The Global Connections and Exchange Project – Bangladesh is a project of Relief International - Schools Online's Global
Citizenship & Youth Philanthropy Program and has been made possible with major funding from the United States State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Global Catalyst Foundation.
