Bangladeshi Students Celebrates Earth Day 2008 PDF Print E-mail
GCE students in Bangladesh joined the global celebration of the Earth Day through web chat, public rally and Internet research on environment, tree plantation in school campus and focus group discussion. Three GLOBE schools in Dhaka and Comilla cluster celebrated the Earth Day on 22 April 2008. The activities undertaken by the students, teachers and community members were aimed at raising awareness about the importance of the Earth Day and the role youth can play in protecting our Mother Earth. The following three GLOBE schools joined the celebration : British American Technology and Management Institute, Tongi, Dhaka, Merer Nigar Academy and College, Tongi, Dhaka, Yusuf M. T high school, Comilla.









British American Technology and Management Institute and Meher Nigar Academy and College jointly celebrated the Earth Day. More than 40 students of class IX, X and XI participated in a number of activities. The students took part in a rally with banner and festoon which pass through the neighbouring communities. The students organised a tree plantation event at their schools campus. This was followed by a group discussion on the climate change and the role of tree plantation in reducing the risk of global warming. Students, teachers and community members joined the discussion.

In Comilla cluster, 28 students celebrated the Earth Day at Yusuf M.T High School. The celebration kicked off with opening speech by the head master of the school and GLOBE Lead Teacher. The activities at the Yusuf school were focused on ILC based activities including internet search for information on history and significance of the Earth Day, climate change, the risks factors for Bangladesh in the wake of global warming. The celebration wrapped up with a student- teacher rally in Comilla town.
