Venue: All GCE core, partner and associate schools in Bangladesh
RI-SOL in collaboration with the UN World Food Program in Bangladesh will organize a number of events/activities to celebrate the Walk the World 2008 throughout its network of schools across Bangladesh. Walk the World is the world's largest annual global fundraising event and was first launched by TNT in 2004. This year On June 1st, WFP together with its corporate partners TNT and Unilever will once again take to the streets to raise funds and awareness for the 59 million children that attend primary school hungry. RI SOL will organize the following activities to celebrate the Walk the World:
1. Student-Community Rally will be organized by each participating school. The participants will walk around their schools, communities and major points in the villages and towns where the schools are located. Rallies are expected to be attended by students, teachers, representatives of local councils, government officials such as UNOs and Thana Education Officers.
2. Group discussion at GCEP Internet Learning Centers in the participating Schools. The discussion will be facilitated by teachers and participated by students and community members;
3. An Online Discussion Board will be initiated to engage GCE students and community members to share news and view about the global event. The online forum will available at http://www.connect-bangladesh.org/forum/ from 25 May 2008 and will run through 7 June 2008. The online discussion will be moderated by RI SOL Education Team and participated by the school students celebrating the event.
4. Participation in the Grand Rally organized by WFP. The rally starts from WFP Bangladesh Country Office at IDB Building on 1 June 10 AM.
Promotional Materials:
RI SOL will prepare banners with the event slogan, information leaflet on the theme of the celebration, initiate online discussion board. The WFP in Bangladesh will provide Walk the World flyers, logo etc to support the celebration at GCE schools.
Number of participating schools and students:
About 50 students from each participating school will be attending the activities to celebrate the event. RI SOL expects that more than 1700 students, community members and teachers will be participating in the celebration.
