Launch of the RI-SOL English Language Clubs in Bangladeshi Schools PDF Print E-mail

Keeping in mind the growing demand of English as the language of opportunity in the modern era and its contribution to meet growing demands of the 21st century, Relief International Schools Online has launched its new initiative namely The English Language Clubs across the schools in the Global Connection and Exchange Program (GCEP). The objective behind forming this club is to stimulate students' interest in the English language skills to empower them to communicate fluently and effectively and provide a platform for students to learn and enhance their skill in the four basic aspects of English language: READING, WRITING, SPEAKING and LISTENING thereby improving their performance and potential.

Some of the activities of the English Club will include:

Conversation Society:

In this activity students will be able to practice their English listening and speaking skills. Everyone can select a topic to debate on and/or talk about popular culture and current events. Someone can bring in a newspaper article and everyone can read it together and discuss it.

Reading can be Fun:

In this activity each student will read the same book/article and then share their views and opinions about it. This will enable them to discuss the various aspects such as the characters, the theme, the strengths and weaknesses of the writer etc. The exercise will enable them to develop their skills in writing book reviews.

Creative Writing Competition:

Students will be encouraged to express themselves through writing short stories, articles, poems, songs, etc. The club organizers will post this creative work on the website http://gcepbd.ning.com/ for others to read and give their feedback. At the end the best writer will be awarded with special gifts. These stories can also be compiled and published as magazines.

English Debate:

The club organizers will encourage the students to form debating teams from amongst the club members. These debating teams can organise debate competitions. Also RI will encourage the club coordinators to organize Inter school debate competitions which will not only enhance student learning in English skills but also broaden their knowledge about current global issues. This will enable them to prepare themselves to participate in National debate competitions and represent their schools across Bangladesh.
