“Education is Future-What is the Future of Education”?
The students and teachers of the GCE schools of Bangladesh were participants in the 24 hours long International Online Conference Agenda 21 Now 2009 http://www.agenda21now.org on 23 April. This 24hour online conference was a joint project of the German UNESCO Associated Schools and the Baltic Sea Project, which together promotes learning and preserving the environment. The theme of the conference for this year was “Education is Future-What is the Future of Education”. The entire experience proved to be infinitely helpful and enlightening for all those who participated.

Students and teachers in GCE schools all around Bangladesh, namely Comilla, Chittagong, Jessore and Dhaka joined the conference in an interactive session with many students and teachers from around the world. The key topic of discussion was Education, and the participants engaged in in-depth discussions about various issues relevant to education. The participating students from Bangladesh discussed use of Internet Communication Tools in education, student scholarships, student exchange programs and required funds for education. Other topics covered also ranged from the education system of the third world countries and methods of providing education to teacher training and so on.
It was a powerful and stimulating conference for the GCE schools and its participants. The “Agenda 21 Now” online conference was for students over 14 years of age and educators all over the world. A conference room, moderators and international experts facilitated the experience for all GCE members here. The online project which lasted 24 hours provided the scope for the students and educators to put forward their views regarding selected issues of sustainable development. Each conference room was given a topic, related to the conference theme Education in Future, and special information was provided on every topic, some provocative theses, essays, pictures, linked material. Students of Bangladesh GCE schools were able to be an active part of this global program just by the click of a mouse. All students previously took extensive preparations on the subject of sustainability before engaging in this online global discussion, and this research and preparation further enhanced their knowledge regarding key environmental issues. Proper use of ICT allowed these students to communicate their views and opinions across the globe, making the whole program a tremendous success.
This experience was an important accomplishment for the students and teachers of the GCE schools and Relief International proudly aims to be a part of more such programs in the future. |
