RI- SOL is proud of its team and all GCE members who have made the celebrations of International Education Week ’09 such a success! All participants devoted their sincere efforts into the activities and, what’s more, also thoroughly enjoyed it.
Web conference on Education System in USA: The webchat between the representative from the American Center and the GCE was one of the most anticipated activities of the week. GCE students are always highly keen to get involved in such interactive sessions which introduce them to such a wealth of information about USA. Like the previous web chats organized by RI- SOL, this chat session was also a very informative and stimulating one.
Video conference between Bangladeshi and US School:
A video conference took place between Waterloo Junior High school in USA and Yusuf Multipurpose Technical High school in Comilla on 19th November at 9 pm Bangladesh time and 8 am USA time. The session lasted one hour, during which students of Waterloo and Comilla engaged in a highly collaborative video conference and discussion. Video conferencing is certainly a very stimulating and interesting activity, and has always been a favourite of the GCE students.

These various activities have certainly served their purpose and made Education Week a week to remember. RI- SOL is very proud of the results and looks forward to more such successful events. Judging by the consistent enthusiasm of the GCE team, we can be sure that many more thriving celebrations are right around the corner.
Online forum discussion:
From 16- 20 Nov 2009, GCE students and teachers actively participated in the online discussion about the topic “Education and Economic Development”. The discussion topic site drew many participants, and many important views and information was shared on the forum. Indeed, sustainable economic development cannot be brought about without proper levels of education prevailing in a country, and our GCE members had much to say on the topic. All participants enthusiastically put forth their views on how education is an integral part of our lives, our economy and nation and how vital it is in every aspect.
Computer Trainings:
One of the core activities for the GCE students was providing trainings in basic computers use, and students in different locations provided it for a diverse group of people. These trainings were:
Computer Training for Visually Impaired Students:
On 16th November a group of GCE students from British American Technology and Management Institute, Tongi and Uttar Badda Islamia Kamil Madrasha, Dhaka went to give computer training at a school for visually impaired students .The school named BERDO,(the Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organization) which is situated in Mirpur, has many eager and intelligent students who tremendously enjoyed received trainings in basic computer use from the GCE students. One of the core aims of Education Week is to enhance collaboration between diverse groups of people , and this was very well established at the training.
Computer Training at Rural Girls' School:
The students of Chowara Girls' High School in Comilla conducted a training session for students at a local girls' school. This computer training proved to be a highly interesting experience for the local students as they have never used computers in their lives. GCE students invited the participants at their school's Internet Learning Center and provided the training. Finally being able to know and learn what a computer is and how it works was a whole new experience for the participants , and certainly a memorable one.
Computer Training for Madrashah Students:
On 18 November, a group of students of Pahartali Girls' High School in Chittagong organized a training program with the students of Nuria Madrashah . The Madrashah students went to Pahartali school’s ILC to receive the training. In the training , GCE students introduced the computer and its various uses to the trainees, taught them how to open a folder, file and so on. The Madrashah students were very happy to get this training, as general norms of the society are such that Madrsashah students do not get easy access to computers.
Computer Training at Girls’ School:
The students of Rani Bilashmoni Govt. Boys High School, Gazipur celebrated International Education Week by organizing a basic computer training for the Joydebpur Girls' High School students on 19 November at the Internet Learning Center of Joydebpur Girls' School. The ILC at the girls’ school has been developed fairly recently and many students at the school are still unfamiliar with computers. This training was hence especially directed at those female students who are completely unaware of the uses of the computer.
Computer Training for Orphanage Students: On 19 November the Yusuf Multiurpose Technical High School's students in Comilla also organized a training in basic computer use, and this training was given to students of their local orphanage. These orphanage students are also among those groups of kids in the country who have never used computers before. Still the participants were very keen and eager to learn and were quite well informed by the time the training ended.
