Comilla
is located about 100 kilometers from the capital, Dhaka. The city of
Comilla is located within the Chittagong District, only a few
kilometers from Bangladesh's eastern border with India. The city
stands on the banks of the Gumti River, and is also a junction along
both the highway and railway running from the port city of Chittagong
to Dhaka. About five million people live in the Greater Comilla
Area, and about one million in the city itself, but the city does not
have the same urban flavor as Dhaka. Immediately outside the
center of town, rice paddys dominate the landscape.
