Join the largest celebration of youth and the contributions they make to their communities

WHAT IS GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY?
Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual global event that:
" BUILDS the capacity of an international network of organizations that promotes youth participation, service, and learning.
" EDUCATES the public, the media, and policy-makers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders around the world.
" MOBILIZES youth and adults to meet the needs of their communities through volunteering.
" LEARNS and share effective practices in youth service, youth voice, and civic engagement in the world today.

OUR(YSA-Youth Service America) VISION
Over the years, millions of youth have participated in the Global Youth Service Day across the globe and together, with the leadership of organizations such as yours, they undertake thousands of volunteer projects that benefit their communities. This day will be a way for local, national, and international organizations to:
" Recognize the year-round contributions of millions of young people worldwide
" Recruit a new generation of volunteers
" Promote young people as resources and not as problems in their communities.

WHY GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY?
Around the world, millions of young people are making a difference in their communities through programs and infrastructures that address voluntary action. The focus of GYSD is to stimulate greater awareness of and support for the methodologies that promote "positive youth development" and volunteer service. Youth volunteering is an effective way to build strong youth and strong communities.
HOW IS GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY ORGANIZED?
All schools, faith-based groups, and youth organizations are encouraged to plan and highlight youth-led community service projects on Global Youth Service Day. Organizations may want to highlight existing projects for media attention, or may choose to organize special projects and events that involve the broader community on GYSD.

At the national level, National Coordinating Committees are being formed to help promote Global Youth Service Day through a network of organizations as well as to the media, the public and the private sectors.

At the global level, an International Coordinating Committee (ICC) is working to promote, organize, and coordinate the celebration. The ICC supports and coordinates the distribution of general materials for promoting and organizing the day, as well as provides assistance to National Lead Agencies.
