Overview

CCHRB is an Umbrella of NGOs working in the field of human rights & development founded in 1987 by the country’s Development activists under the leadership of renowned  human rights activist Rev. Father Dr. R.W. Timm of CJP. Two types of members are in this umbrella, the first one is, General Member status & the second one is Observer member status. Those Organizations that obtained membership of CCHRB and paid all subscriptions are in called General Member and  the organizations that have applied for memberships and actively involved with on going human rights movement carried out by CCHRB  but not yet allowed   membership are  considered as Observer Member. At present there are 175 General Members & around 150 organizations are in observer status. ASA, ALRD, ARBAN BRAC, BRCT, CCDB, CARITAS CRD DORP, G.K., Proshika, IDR, TMSS, RIGHTS-Jessore, SEHD, World Vision, Prodipon are the important General Members of CCHRB.

Mandate

The mandate of CCHRB as grounded in it’s memorandum to  promote & protect human rights in Bangladesh and coordinate human rights activities in the country through a common platform of NGO’s committed to defense human rights.

Objectives

Legal Status

CCHRB has obtained registration from the Directorate of Social Welfare under the Voluntary Social Activities Ord.’61 & the NGO Affairs Bureau (NGOAB) under Foreign Donation Regulation Ord.’78

Executive Committee & Management

CCHRB has a 15 members  Executive Body. This body is elected by the council members (General Body) after every two years. The EC is the supreme decision making body of CCHRB which meets at least once a month and formulates policies, guidelines in running the affairs of CCHRB through it’s Secretariat. The Chief Executive Officer of CCHRB is the ex officio member of the Executive Committee.

The Secretariat is led by it’s Chief Executive Officer (Executive Director/Director)  who is liable for all deeds & activities of CCHRB. The CEO is to supervise the professionals working under his leadership & responsible to implement and execute the plans/projects as per policy of the organization & guide line of the EC. However he is primarily liable to the Executive Body and also to the General Members of CCHRB.

Strategy In General

The concept behind the foundation of the organization is to work under a common umbrella. Both in planning & implementation CCHRB always adopting the strategy to work with it’s members &other like minded potential organizations. There is a practice of regular strategic planning in CCHRB at the beginning of the each program planning and implementation. Experts of the potential member organizations, EC members formulate policies and plan of actions depending on the nature volume & criteria of programs through a participatory approach. Gender issues with equal participation of both male and female, applying both bottom-up and top-down process are usually followed to maximize democratic practice in formulating realistic plans in the strategic planning workshop. Responsibilities of activities are being distributed to the members organization in the Forum meeting of GB.
